PRESEASON NOTES
Lone senior on the team after transferring from Trinity Valley Community College before last season... First player from a foreign country (Latvia) to play for Houston since Emily Fryters (Australia)... Name pronounced ZAH-ney... A wing guard/small forward... Pure shooter and an impact player... If left open, she will hurt opponents... Will be expected to see more minutes as a senior and provide high energy particularly on the boards and on defense ... Should play a leadership role for the Cougars... Her size (6-1) could be a tremendous asset guarding bigger players.
2007-08 (JUNIOR)
Saw action in 19 games, playing 130 minutes for the Cougars as a junior... Shot .378 percent (17-of-45) from the floor, including an impressive 12-of-33 (.364) from three-point range... Averaged 2.7 points and .8 rebounds per contest... Played a season-high 15 minutes, contributing six points against Duke (12/18/07) ... Pulled down a season-best five rebounds at UTEP (1/4/08)... Contributed eight points with two three point baskets and a perfect 2-of-2 mark from the charity stripe against SMU (2/9/08)... Following the SMU game, registered a second straight multiple three-point basket game against UTEP (2/14/08) going 2-of-5 from long distance... Recorded a season-high in points with nine, going 3-of-5 from the floor and 3-of-4 from long distance in the C-USA Championship Quarterfinal contest against Southern Miss (3/7/08).
PRIOR TO UH
Part of a Trinity Valley CC squad that was 56-10 during her two seasons... Won two conference championships... Placed fifth in the 2006 National Tournament... Averaged 13.1 ppg in 2007, shooting at a 45.5 percent (91-of-200) clip from the field and almost 75 percent from the charity stripe... She was 57-for-146 from behind the arc (39.0%), which would have led Conference USA and ranked in the Top-30 nationally in 2007.
